85 Years of Sweet Dark Chocolate Candy...
Join us on Father's Day as we celebrate 85 years of Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros and his Afro-Cuban Trumpet on Sunday, June 16, 2013, 2 – 4 pm at the Harlem Meer on 110th Street between Fifth & Lenox Avenues INSIDE Central Park by the boat house.**
And it's free! What could be better? Picnic or fish by the lake as we perform and celebrate our Afro-Antillian music w/ the Father of the Cuban trumpet, our own Louis Armstrong, "Chocolate" Armenteros.
After recording with Rene Alvarez & his "salseros," the young trumpet player made history in Arsenio Rodriguez' shape shifting "conjunto" band style where the blind composer & guitarist (Cuban tres) changed the musical line up giving rise to the instrumentation seen today in Latin music bands.
